Starting an Investigation
How do I submit a task?
Create a new task and attach the documents or datasets you want Continua to investigate. Then describe what you need Continua to determine.
A useful task usually explains:
- What you are trying to determine
- What issues matter most
- What should be compared or reconciled
- What risks or inconsistencies should be surfaced
- How you want the final report organized
Attaching Documents
How do I attach documents?
Use Attach when creating a task and select the materials you want included in the investigation.
Depending on the workflow, Continua can work with supported formats such as PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, and other formats shown in the uploader.
What happens to documents attached to a normal task?
Files attached directly to a normal task are temporary and are handled under Continua's Zero Document Retention workflow. For details, see Trust & Security.
Customizing Your Investigation
Continua lets you control both what it should look for and how it should present the result — through Finding Criteria and Composition Criteria.
Finding Criteria
What evidence, issues, patterns, or exceptions should count as meaningful findings.
- Identify contradictions between documents
- Flag customer concentration above a threshold
- Identify change-of-control provisions
- Find unexplained gaps in medical treatment
- Surface conflicting dates
- Identify terms changed by later amendments
Answers: what should Continua look for?
Composition Criteria
How Continua organizes and presents the final report.
- Begin with an executive summary
- Rank findings by severity
- Organize findings by contract
- Produce a date-by-date chronology
- Issue, evidence, impact, recommendation table
- Separate confirmed findings from open questions
Answers: how should Continua present what it finds?
Guardrails
Lite
Use Lite when you want broader discovery, including potentially important patterns or hypotheses that may require professional review.
Designed to maximize discovery.
Strict
Use Strict when you want conservative, evidence-backed findings and less unsupported inference.
Designed to maximize evidentiary discipline.
Choosing an AI Model
Can I choose which AI model Continua uses?
Yes. Where model selection is available, you can choose your preferred AI model before running the task. Some models require paid usage or credits.
Regardless of the model selected, Continua does not use your documents to train AI models. See Trust & Security.
Following Up on a Task
A completed investigation can become the starting point for additional analysis.
- Explain this finding in more detail
- Reorganize findings by severity
- Compare contracts
- Create a table of conflicting representations
- Produce a shorter executive summary
Visuals
You can follow up on a completed task and ask Continua to turn suitable findings or data into visual formats such as timelines, tables, charts, comparison views, and structured evidence views.
Exporting Reports
Completed reports can be exported in supported formats including PDF and DOCX.
Projects
What is a Project?
A Project is a persistent workspace for source material you expect to investigate repeatedly — useful for ongoing legal matters, active transactions, recurring financial analysis, long-running investigations, and repeated analysis of the same dataset.
Credits & Top-Ups
A top-up adds paid usage or credits to your account — useful when you need additional investigations, want to use a paid AI model, or need more usage than your current balance provides.
Subscriptions
Paid plans may provide recurring usage or other account benefits based on the plan shown at checkout. You can cancel a recurring subscription before its next renewal.
Payments
Supported Continua web payments are processed through Stripe. For information about payment security, see Trust & Security.
Common Questions
Can I analyze multiple documents together?
Yes. Cross-document investigation is a core Continua workflow.
How do I tell Continua exactly what to investigate?
Use Finding Criteria — they define what evidence, issues, patterns, or exceptions count as meaningful findings.
How do I control the format of my report?
Use Composition Criteria — they control how Continua organizes and presents the final report.
What's the difference between Lite and Strict?
Lite favors broader discovery. Strict favors conservative, strongly evidence-backed findings.
Can I choose the AI model?
Yes, where model selection is available. Some models require paid usage.
Can I follow up on a completed investigation?
Yes. A completed investigation can become the starting point for additional analysis.
Can I export a report?
Yes. Supported exports include PDF and DOCX.
Should I use a Project?
Use a Project when you expect to investigate the same documents repeatedly.
Does Continua use my documents to train AI?
No. See Trust & Security for details.
